How has your participation with Peak Advisor Alliance impacted your practice?
When I look at my career, I look at it as pre-Peak Advisor Alliance and post-Peak Advisor Alliance. Before Peak Advisor Alliance, I was running an unorganized commission-only business that relied 100% on selling low-priced OTC securities to investor’s over the phone. This was no fun. I was burned out, always under pressure, and my entire business would rise and fall having to do with the performance of the stock I was selling at the time. Interestingly, I had no idea there was another way to run a financial services business.
With the dedicated help and support of Ron, Steve, and the entire Peak Advisor Alliance team, I was switched on! I started completely over; I transformed my business into a true wealth management practice. I changed B/D’s, gutted and remodeled my entire office top to bottom, went to fees cold turkey, and implemented a battery of new approaches including client events, public speaking, writing for our local paper, first rate proposals, POD letters, True Wealth planning, eMoney, message on hold, to name but a few.
If I had to list one thing that helped me the most, it was gaining the confidence from the entire Peak Advisor Alliance team and fellow Peak Advisor Alliance members that I could really do this. Moreover, I have attended all but one Excell Meeting and will continue to do so in the future. Every meeting, without exception, I have brought back several new ideas to implement in my practice.
How has your participation with Peak Advisor Alliance impacted the quality of your life?
Before Ron Carson/Peak Advisor Alliance, I had no quality of life. Now my quality of life is bubbling over, I started a rock band for fun to play out, and have had a blast. I have been able to substantially increase the quality of my life getting away from commission-only income to having regular-fee income. I am debt free and, for the first time in my life, really feel in the driver’s seat. I also started a public speaking company and have been spreading the “True Wealth” word. I have had a regular health and exercise plan since joining Peak Advisor Alliance also—just so many things.
Share with us a little about your experiences, your successes, and how you and the people who support your practice have grown.
The road my staff and I have traveled has not been easy. However, we never lost sight of the idea that sometimes you have to sacrifice and stretch out of your comfort level to truly grow in business and in life. Looking back at my colleagues from my old commission stock slinging firm, many of the brokers have washed out of the business, and the firm went out of business. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I changed my business when I did and I had the opportunity to receive expert direction that now translates into a successful practice.
